Front-running is a type of market manipulation where an entity can enter into a transaction in advance of a pending or incoming order that will or may impact the price of the order.

In the context of blockchain, trading bots can scan for pending orders available on blockchain explorers and can enter their trades first, thereby profiting on the resulting price movements when prior orders are finally executed. This occurs most frequently in trading systems that enable price slippage.
